Turkey Introduces Mandatory Use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)

On 26 June 2025, Türkiye introduced a regulatory framework mandating the gradual adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for international flights. Published by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM), the “Sustainable Aviation Fuel Directive (SHT-SAF)” establishes the standards, mandatory usage, and incentives for SAF to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from international aviation activities. This measure aligns with ICAO’s global decarbonisation efforts and aims to reduce aviation-related carbon emissions by 5% by 2030.
